Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 October 2026
This policy covers the Atlas of Serendip app for iPhone and iPad and this website. The app collects no data: what it remembers stays on your device.
Nothing to sign up for
The app has no account, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. It contains no code from other companies besides Apple’s own system frameworks, and it has no server of its own.
What stays on your device
For each atlas, the app keeps your journey (the stops of your trail and where you stand), the exploration memory (the topics and connections you have seen, and the routes last shown at each stop) and the topic your journey opened on. It also remembers which atlas you opened last. These are kept in files in the app’s own storage on your device and are never sent anywhere.
- The exploration memory forgets anything you have not seen for 7 days, and the app removes it from your device the next time you open that atlas.
- Your journey stays until you start a new journey in that atlas.
- Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Like other app data, these files can be part of your device’s backups, to iCloud or to a computer, which you control.
Purchases
Some atlases are free; the others are in-app purchases. Buying an atlas and Restore Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment and your Apple Account; the app never sees them. The app receives only the transactions Apple signs, which say which atlases you own, and checks Apple’s signature on your device. It keeps no purchase records of its own. Apple’s handling of your purchase is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
What the app loads from the internet
The atlases, with their text and images, are inside the app. The app loads nothing from the internet of its own: it goes online only through Apple’s App Store framework, to show prices, to buy and to restore purchases.
When you tap a source, a credit or a license link, it opens in Safari, outside the app, and the website you visit has its own privacy policy. An email address opens your mail app. If you share an image from the Credits page, the system’s share sheet sends it only where you choose.
